The dart players representing Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2012 Canadian Darts Championships proved that they are among the elite dart players in Canada.

The province’s players earned five medals at the 2012 event that was held in Thunder Bay, Ontario and placed second overall in provincial standings.

Brent Colombe of Harbour Breton really had his darts sharpened for tournament play as he teamed up with Troy Hanlon from St. Mary’s to win a gold medal in the men’s doubles title, three legs to one over Ontario in the finals.

Hanlon finished all three games in the round. Hanlon and Colombe finished atop the qualifying round with a 9-1 record. They topped Manitoba 3-1 and triumphed over Quebec 3-2 in playoffs as Hanlon had a 30 average while Colombe scored a 29 average.

Patricia Farrell of Doyles and Wayne Pike of Grand Falls-Windsor finished with silver medals in singles play.

Todd Day finished Joint 5th in the World Ranked Canadian Open Singles that were played on June 16.

Janelle Legge of Marystown and Todd Hiscock of St. John’s placed second in mixed doubles for a third silver medal.

Legge earned a bronze medal in female singles as she went 11-0 in round robin play but lost to Ontario in the playoffs and finished third.

In mixed doubles, Newfoundland and Labrador had seven out of eight teams earn a berth in playoffs, which was an exceptional showing.

The overall finish saw Newfoundland and Labrador finish second to Alberta in provincial standings.
