On May 16th, more than $71,000 was presented to 97 provincial athletes at the 2012 Premier’s Athletic Awards hosted by the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. This event was held at the Battery Hotel, St. John’s and Devin Benoit of Conne River was invited to attend.
Devin Benoit was one of the athletics who was presented a cheque for $1000.00 to assist him with the cost of training and competition at the elite level in powerlifting.
“Receiving this award is a great honour. It's great that the government of Newfoundland and Labrador has shown such great support to the athletes of this province. I did not know that I would be getting the award when I received the invitation. My next competition is July 7th in St.John’s where I will be competing in the provincial championships,” stated Mr. Benoit.
The Premier’s Athletic Awards Program recognizes and supports the extraordinary athletic achievements of Newfoundland and Labrador’s top young athletes,” said Premier Dunderdale. “We honour our outstanding athletes not only for what they have accomplished, but for their drive, hard work and dedication to their chosen sport. I commend all the recipients and wish them the best of luck for their future success.”

Through programs such as the Premier’s Athletic Awards, we are providing them with the support they need to assist them in achieving their athletic goals.”
