A level one student from John Watkins Academy in Hermitage-Sandyville is trying out for a provincial volleyball team.

Tyrone Loveless, the son of Shawn and Roaxanne Loveless of Seal Cove, learned from the internet that any students interested in trying out for the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association’s 16 and under provincial team could come to Gander. Tyrone attended and made the top 12 out of the 40 attending from Central Region. Now he will travel to St. John’s where he will compete against teams from the other three regions of the province.

If Tyrone is selected for the provincial team, they will travel to New Brunswick in the summer to represent Newfoundland and Labrador in 16 and under volleyball.

Also, while at Gander, the coaches were so impressed with his skills they invited him to be a player with Central’s 18 and under team as well.

Tyrone began playing volleyball at John Watkins Academy when he was in grade seven. Then he was a regular on the junior team and a member of the second line of the Rebels Boys’ Volleyball team. In grade nine he began playing on the first line of the Rebels and went to the provincials for two years.
