Shayne Dominie, a 15 year old youth in Harbour Breton, was recently a key member of the bantam AAA Central Icepak team that played in the 2012 Irving Oil Provincial Bantam AAA Tournament.

Although the Central Icepak only won one game, the score was very close in two other contests as they lost our against Tri-pen 4 to 3 and against St. Johns 4 to 2.

Rob Canning, the coach of the Icepak team, said that Shayne was a key member of the team.

Shayne definitely brings a lot to our team, Canning said. Were glad to have him as he is a big body and a real solid defenseman. Shayne is very mobile, has a good shot and is also a leader in the dressing room. Our season is over but Shayne will still play some hockey in the Harbour Breton Minor Hockey Program.

Shayne will also see hockey action in May as he was selected to be a member of a Maritimes/Quebec team that will play in an international tournament in Boston on May 25. He received this special invitation while playing at the provincial Under 15 Championship last summer in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Canning said that he is not surprised at all that the Maritimes/Quebec coaches would want Shayne on their team.

He said, No, Im not surprised at all that the coaches would want Shayne on their team. He is a big boy with a great skillset and this is the combination coaches want. Shayne also has a great attitude and is very coachable as he listens to instruction and is always ready and willing to learn.

Believe me, he will be a great asset to the team when he gets to play in Boston in May.
