JWA Girls Win First Ever Basketball Championship

Topics :

The Rebels (girls) of John Watkins Academy in Hermitage-Sandyville are still pumped from a recent gold medal win.

In a competition against the St. Anne’s basketball team from Conne River, the Rebels took the first two games of three to win gold medals for A-division basketball. The Rebels, led by coach Kayla Rose and teacher sponsor Angie Rose, were ecstatic to win the first ever gold medal in basketball for their school. In 1996 the boys’ team from John Watkins Academy had won gold, and the Rebels of 2012 were happy to sign the banner and display it on the gym wall alongside that of the boys.

Crystal Simms, captain of the Rebels, praised her girls who practiced regularly for the competition and complimented Desiree Benoit who won the Sportsmanship award. Desiree played with the team from Conne River, a team coached by Paul MacDonald.
