On Thursday, April 28th-30th, the Bay d'Espoir Bantam Blizzard along with six players from Twin Town’s minor hockey association traveled to Harbour Grace, NL and brought home the gold.
The Blizzard team was in need of a few more players so they picked up a few players from Port Saunders/Port au Choix, and they were unstoppable.
The players had never met before but you would never have known. As a team they seemed to play together like a team would following a number of weekly practice sessions.
The players worked together so well that Andrew Stoodley, the goalie for the Blizzard team gave up his position so the Twin Team goalie could play in net. This was s a very unselfish act by Andrew that ensured that every layer on the team had a chance to play.
The Bay d’Espoir Blizzard/Twin Town played four teams and won all four games to get to the championship. The excitement among the players and fans made the game even more exciting. They played hard, worked hard, and enjoyed every minute of their tournament.
The championship game was played against Bell Island and the score was tied 3-3 going into the third period. The game got very intense but the Blizzard team poured on the pressure in the third and won 7-4.
Congratulations to Cameron Hicks, John Hepsoe, Kyle Crant and Brandon Sampson who won ‘Player of the game’ awards.
A special thank you goes out to all the coaches, players and fans.
