Kyle Crant, a 14 year old from St. Alban’s, is excited to be a member of the Central Newfoundland Bantam AAA IcePak squad, a team made up of the best 13 and 14 year old hockey players from Central Newfoundland.
Following an extensive training camp, which consisted of practices and games (paid for by the parents), the team was selected on December 12, 2010.
The team consists of 17 full time players, 1 affiliate player, plus a 4 member coaching staff. Participation in the AAA program requires a high level of commitment from the players and their parents
Kyle Crant worked hard to become one of those members on December 12, 2010. Fifty players tried out and seventeen were chosen. He played well and proved he deserved a spot on this team.
The team will represent Central NL during the Provincial AAA Irving Oil Cup during February 2011 in Rocky Harbour, NL. The winner of this tournament will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Atlantic Championships to be held in Moncton, NB during March 2011.
His team will play against five other teams from Newfoundland and Labrador in a Provincial Tournament. The winner from this goes on to represent Newfoundland at the Atlantic's.
Kyle has come a long way from the day he received his first pair of skates at a very early age.
At age two and a half his parents put him in skates and on the ice and at age four he had joined his first hockey league.
He takes every opportunity to practice or play for fun when he can and enjoys the sport to the fullest.
He had a tryout tournament and practice tournament so far and several trips Bishops Falls. He has to travel at least once per week for this team and is committed to doing so.
Kyle’s mom stated, “He was literally tickled pink, he loves to play however and whenever possible.”
Anyone can tryout for this team and each year a new team is chosen.
