On November 13th, 2010 four lifters from Conne River competed at the Eastern Canadian Power Lifting championships at the Delta hotel in St. John’s. Warren John, Devin Benoit, Misel Jeddore and Paul McDonald lifted with the aim of qualifying for the national competition in P.E.I.
Warren John lifted his personal best in his second contest ever with a 374 lb. squat, 242 lb. bench press, and a 462 lb. dead lift with a final total of 590kg or 1078 lbs. and only weighing 165 lbs. He set the stage for the 2011 National Championships in P.E.I. where he hopes to win a medal.
Devin Benoit lifted big in the bench press only competition with a 275 lb. personal record bench press at his new weight class of 220 lbs. Coach Paul McDonald said “The amazing thing with Devin is that he is only 15 years old and he has enormous potential in the sport of power lifting”.
Misel Jeddore, who is currently attending Memorial University, lifted in his first ever power-lifting competition. Misel weighed in at 181 lbs. and competed in the bench press only competition lifting a top weight of 231 lbs.
The final competitor from Conne River is Coach Paul McDonald. Paul weighed in at 198 lbs. and finished the competition with a 644 lb squat, breaking the previous provincial squat record of 640 lbs. Paul also did a 418 lb. bench press and a 606 lb dead lift with an overall total of 757.5 kg or 1666.5 lb total.
