On Jan.17, 2009, the Knights of Columbus in Harbour Breton hosted a free throw competition at St. Joseph's gym, which was sponsored by Father Hayes Council No. 7127. There was a low turnout for the event this year, but the kids that did turn up for it had a great time. A total of six kids took part in the free throw this year - four boys and two girls. All of the kids were presented with certificates for participating in the free throw and there were certificates for the winners in different age group. Adrianna Augot was the winner in the 10-year-old girls competition and Heidi Cox won the 11-year-old girls category. The winners in the boys division were Logan Stone, age 11 and Justin Snook, age 12. The kids were treated to a lunch when the contest was over. Brother Craig Cox, youth chairperson, would like to thank the kids for coming out to participate in the free throw competition this year and hopes to see more kids next year. Brother Craig would also like to thank the school for lending K of C the gym for the afternoon and Brothers Wayne Cox, Derrick Snook and Roy Skinner for coming out to help out with the free throw.
