Volleyball Action in the Coast of Bays

A number of key volleyball tournaments involving students in the Coast of Bays have taken place since September of the 2012-2013 school year. The following pictures capture some of the action and presentations from these various sports events.

Warrior Clarke Hynes accepted the Most Sportsmanlike Medal for the tournament from King Academy vice-principal Jamie Hunt following the 2A tournamnet held at King on November 24.

The Bay d’Espoir Academy Predators are a vastly improved volleyball team and will be back to play against the Warriors next school year. The Predators include: Front (from l): Jason Earle, Goodman Hepsoe, Ryan Younge, Michael Willcott, Cameron Hicks and Heather Kearley (coach). Back (from l): Liam Murray, Jordan Collier, Andrew Stoodley, Mike Hunt, John Hepsoe and Luke Follow.

These three Predators – (From l):Sarah Collier, Chantal Caines and Rebecca Wheaton- have been a prominent part of their school’s sport scene for the past several school years and will graduate in June 2013.

A bittersweet moment! In victory co-captains Courtney Morris (L) and Alyson Roberts proudly hold the championship banner. Both girls had some regret that this was their last time to play a regional volleyball tournament at their school: both girls graduate in June.

Predator Caitlyn Crant was all smiles for the camera despite suffering an injury on the last play of the championship match. Ms. Crant was named the Most Sportsmanlike Player for the 2A tournament.

The Predators played hard during 2A tournament play but had to settle for silver following the championship match. The Predators include: Front (from l): Tammy Garden, teacher-sponsor; Sarah Collier, Rebecca Wheaton, Chantal Caines and Robyn Lilly, coach. Back (from l): Katherine Stoodley, Rebecca Sheppard, Emily Willcott, WhitneyWillcott-Benoit, Nicole Willcott, Kendra Willcott-Benoit, Lauren Burke, Laura Adams and Chelsea Mackey. Caitlyn Crant is also a member of the Predators.

Warriors6.jpg: The King Academy Warriors are going to the provincial high-school 2A tournament in Labrador. Going to Churchill Falls! The Rebels of JWA won gold medals (A division) in the provincial tournament in St. Lawrence on November 17 and are set to go to Churchill Falls at the end of the month to compete against teams from Labrador. In the finals at an eight-team tournament in St. Lawrence the Rebels played against an equally strong team from Bishop White All-Grade in Port Rexton; the Rebels lost the first game 25 – 17 to Port Rexton, but rebounded in two very intense matches and beat Port Rexton 26 – 24 and 15 – 13. The   Rebels are (insert) Sommer MacDonald, (standing L- R) Courtney Morris, Alyson Roberts, Ashley Loveless, Marissa Mullins, Marilyn Barnes-Hoskins (coach); (kneeling) Jade Ryan, Crystal Simms, Bethany Nash, and Lindsey King. The Coaster is hoping to carry a more detailed item on the Rebels’ gold medal win in the December 4 edition.
