Kiwanis Music Festival 2012

A number of residents from the Coast of Bays area participated in the 2102 Kiwanis Music Festival that was held in Grand Falls-Windsor from March 25 to 31. The following pictures show some of the residents who took part in the special event.

Caisie Watkins of Milltown-Head of Bay d;’Espoir won an award for Vocal Concer Group, 15 years and over and one of the Kelly Family awards for being the vocal senior candidate in the prestigious Rose Bowl competition. 1 height:500px;width:375px From l): Destiny Benoit, Tia Cox and Xander Monroe at the 2012 Kiwanis Music Festival. Ms. Benoit was chosen to perform a traditional Mi’Kmaq folk song entitled ‘Apoqmeunen’ (Thank you Great Spirit at the Stars of the Festival concert. 2 height:500px;width:375px Michaela Benoit of Conne River received an award for Best Performance in Sacred Music, 15 years and over. 3 height:500px;width:448px Taylor and Sarah Collier of St. Alban’s prerforming the Glee version of “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at the festival. A number of youth from the Coast of Bays participated in the 2012 Kiwanis Music Festival that was held at Grand Falls-Windsor from March 25 to 31. Two of the key participants were the Willcott-Benoit sisters from St. Alban’s, Kendra (l) and Whitney (r) who captured a total of six awards between them (see inside for details). The sisters, and many others, have been guided through the Kiwanis festivals by Brenda Jeddore who has played an instrumental role in helping the youth in the Bay d’Espoir area and Conne River develop musically over the past number of years. 11 width:500px;height:375px Paula Drew from Conne River had another good year at the Kiwanis Festival by placing Songs from Broadway - 2nd place; Songs from Broadway; 2nd place, Sacred Music; 3rd place, Traditional Folk; 2nd place, Newfoundland Music; 2nd place, Canadian Composer; 3rd place, Vocal Quick Study and 2nd place, Musical Theater Duet with Michaela Benoit. 12 height:500px;width:375px Tia Cox and her father, Perry Cox performing at the 2012 festival. 13 width:500px;height:332px Catherine Bourdin playing some traditional Newfoundlnd music at the festival 14 width:500px;height:332px Lauren Burker playing a mean banjo at the 2012 Kiwanis Festival. 15 width:500px;height:332px
