The way I see it - So, I am sure you all have obviously heard that the 2010 Olympics are now going on. The opening ceremonies were on television this weekend. I myself did watch the opening ceremonies.
I personally have never watched it before until this year. I have to admit that the only reason I did want to watch was because it is held in Canada. As everyone is saying "it's Canada's year" ... well I hope so. I am not sure how many gold medals Canada has won thus far but last I heard we had at least one.
When I watched the ceremonies I was amazed, and I mean literally amazed, by the amount of aboriginal material they had included in the ceremonies. Being an aboriginal I was very pleased and proud.
It made me so emotional because I did not think that Canada realized that the aboriginals play such a major part in our Country, but I guess I was wrong; they do realize and that makes me so unbelievably proud. I can not really begin to even totally describe how I felt when I saw the aboriginals perform in front of millions. I found it so moving and so heart warming.
Another aspect of the Ceremonies that made me completely proud was that Newfoundland was mentioned and there was an aspect of our province included as well.
I have to say I was surprised at how they represented out country, and I could not be more proud of my country right now and our athletes. I really hope they bring the gold home this year. I hope it really is Canada's year.
As I already said, I was one to never really watch the Olympics but this year I did and I am glad I did. I think I will actually watch it in 2012 too so I can see how other countries present themselves. I found Canada's opening interesting and touching so I can only imagine what I will think when I see the other countries doing the same.
I also want to mention the young athlete who sadly and unfortunately passed away while in training for the Olympics. I am sure we all know about him by now. His name was Nodar Kumaritashvili. I am so sad for his team mates and family. I wish them all my condolences.
Anyways, as I was saying I am so proud of what I seen and I am so proud to be a Canadian! WHOO! GO CANADA!
On a last note... LETS GO CANADA, LETS GO!
Go Canada Go
