Since 1983 when the South and Central Health Foundation began, the charity has raised over $8.5 million for new equipment in the health care facilities of the central section of this province, including the hospital and clinics in the Coast of Bays.
Over the years a number of businesses, service clubs, hospital auxiliaries, and individuals have donated to the different appeals, some on an annual basis. And all the dollars are put to good use, and more dollars will always be needed.
Every two years the foundation sponsors a meet-and-greet to say thank you to the donors, an event held in Grand Falls-Windsor and too far for residents of the south coast to attend.
In her remarks the CEO of Central Health, Karen McGrath, said that all the equipment on display was evidence of the impact of donations from citizens and groups across the central area. “It is obvious that your donations do make a difference to the patients, residents, and clients,” she emphasized.
She thanked the employees of Central Health who contribute in a variety of ways, the healthcare auxiliaries, the businesses, and the faithful donors who are there annually with amounts varying from $10 to $1000.00. She stated that without the dollars from the foundation, much of this equipment would not have made it to our region as quickly as it did, or possibly not at all.
Residents of the Coast of Bays can keep in mind the annual Christmas appeal, the Mother’s Day Radiothon, support the Harbour Breton Auxiliary in its 50/50 draws and gift shop, or make a personal donation anytime they visit the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (CNRHC) in Grand Falls – Windsor. Every dollar matters!
