The volunteer fire departments from St. Jacques-Coomb’s Cove and Belleoram responded to a house fire in Boxey On Tuesday night, July 31.
Earl Lawrence, the chief of the St. Jacques-Coomb’s Cove department said that the building was engulfed in flames when the firemen arrived on the scene about 15 minutes after receiving the call for help.
Lawrence said that as the fire started in the porch section of the house the firemen had no access to the interior and they focused on saving nearby houses.
Max Taylor, the mayor of St. Jacques-Coomb’s Cove said that the fireman did an excellent job in keeping the fire from spreading and no other structures received any damage in the incident.
The owner of the residence now lives in Wreck Cove and used the house in Boxey as a summer camp. There was no electricity going to the residence at the time of the fire.
The owner and another person were in the dwelling at the time of the fire but managed to get out safely. There were no injuries in the incident and no insurance was carried on the structure.
As of Wednesday, August 8, the cause of the fire had not been determined.
