Reuben Lewis Memorial Bridge officially opened

One of the highlights of the 2012 Conne River Pow Wow was the official opening of the Reuben Lewis Memorial Bridge that spans Southeast Brook. One of the highlights of the 2012 Conne River Pow Wow was the official opening of the Reuben Lewis Memorial Bridge.

Senator Fabian Manning, on behalf of the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, joined with Chief Misel Joe of the Miawpukek First Nation in cutting the ribbon to open the bride on July 6.

The new bridge was made available through an investment of $337,140 by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada’s Emergency Management Assistance Program.

Senator Manning said, “The Harper Government is committed to building stronger First Nation communities and substantially improving the health and safety of its residents. By investing in infrastructure, we are doing just that.

“Investments in public infrastructure like the bridge over the Southeast Brook will help connect communities as well s create and suatin jobs.”

Chief Joe said, “I would like to thank the Government of Canada fro its contribution to the continuous well-being of our community. This new bridge will not only improve our day-to-day lives, it will stimulate our local economy by helping create new jobs and making our community more sustainable.”
