The Mi’kmaq people of Conne River joined with many of their aboriginal counterparts from all across Canada on July 6, 7 and 8 in celebrating their 17th annual Pow Wow.

A Pow Wow is held by aboriginal peoples to preserve their rich heritage through dancing, singing, drumming and in getting together to renew old friendships and to make new ones.

Pow Wows, held each year across North America, are the oldest, most colouful and important of all the aboriginal ceremonies.

Chief Misel Joe said that the annual Pow Wow is very important as it gives the Mi’kmaq at Conne River an opportunity to learn from other groups and to educate mainland aboriginals about Mi’kmaq traditions and beliefs.
