Shortly after 9 AM on 23 January 2012, RCMP in Hopedale received a report of 4 overdue people traveling from Hopedale to Natuashiah. The party left Hopedale at 4pm on Sunday January 22 and had not arrived in Natuashiah by Monday morning. GSAR teams left Hopedale and Natuashish looking for the group of 4 which included 2 men and 2 women. RCMP were advised that the wind and snow picked as the party entered Flowers Bay and they decided to turn around and head to a cabin in Big Bay for the night. At 9am one member of the party assessed the weather, found his ski-doo to be half full and advised the others that he would attempt to return to Natuashish in order to get help and return. Police were notified of his return and members of the GSAR picked up the remaining members of the party and returned to Natuashish.
Cpl. Kenny of the Hopedale RCMP Detachment can be contacted for more information at 709-933-3820.
