The Harbour Breton Beautification Committee, in partnership with Canon Cameras and the provincial Department of Natural Resources, was planting trees in several areas of the community recently.
Ray, Noseworthy, the Chair of the Beautification Committee, said that while Harbour Breton has entered several Tidy To2wn competitions and has won several times, one of the “black marks’ against the Town was in the area of urban forests.
Noseworthy said, “Although we have residents with trees on their property, we have areas in the community with no trees at all so this is what this project is about – to have more trees in the
community.”
Canon Cameras provided $5,000 for the project while the Department of Natural Resources and Don Stewart provided trees for the planting project.
The committee planted trees near the RCMP Detachment, the CYN Community Center and the senior cottages in August and will plant trees at the old hospital site on September 5.
