On Thursday, July 18th a Bike Rodeo was held for youth ages 4-11 at the St. Alban’s arena.
This event was organized by the Bay d`Espoir Community Youth Network and the St. Alban`s Recreation committee.
The youth learned the importance of bicycle safety from the Community Development Nurse, Sandra Dominie and RCMP Officer, Constable Chris Brennan.
The purpose behind this course was to teach children that even though riding a bike maybe fun, accidents can still happen. The youth were told that they need to wear their helmets when out riding and the importance of having a helmet fit properly.
The group then participated in a bicycle and helmet inspection before they completed several obstacle courses including a figure 8 and the long roll. After the obstacle course the children rode their bicycles through St. Alban’s led by the RCMP.
After a busy day of learning the fundamentals of bicycle safety the participants all enjoyed prizes, snacks and refreshments provided by the Bay d` Espoir CYN and St. Alban`s Recreation.
