The Connaigre Peninsula Cancer Benefit Group did some great work for cancer patients in the peninsula area on June 23 as the members held their held its 3rd annual Walk of Hope.

Cynthia Augot, the chair of the cancer benefit group, said that the project realized about $56,000 thanks in large part to the 15 teams involved and the many individuals who came out to buy tickets on Saturday.

Ms. Augot said, “On behalf of all the cancer group members, I would like to thank everyone who helped make the day such a fantastic success.

“We had a ton of great support from all over the Connaigre area as people from all the communities around came out to support us in one way or another.

“To those who worked in the kitchen, to those who counted the money for us, to those who provided entertainment, to those who helped in any other way, please be assured that all your help was, and is, greatly appreciated.”

While very team involved contributed to the overall amount, it should be noted that the Bloomers of Hope, a team from the St. Jacques-Coomb’s Cove area, raised $7,100 for the great cause.

An individual from the same area, Bill Clarke, raised $1,200 to the program.

From January 1, 2012 to June 20, 2012, the Connaigre Peninsula Cancer Benefit Group donated $19,875 to 52 cancer patients on the Connaigre Peninsula who had to travel for medical appointments.

As of June 20, 2012 the group had $11,085 in its bank account.
