On May 31st – June 2nd, a convention for Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador was held at the Holdiday Inn in St. John’s and hundreds of people across the province in attendance.
Wendy Woodman, from Milltown, attended on behalf of the community’s Recreation Committee and stated that the event was a very worth while function.
Throughout the weekend ballots were given out to the participants for prize draws and Wendy was the lucky winner of a $600.00 prize package of equipment and activity guides for the recreation program in Milltown/Head of Bay d’Espoir. The package included a mobile basketball system, balls, volleyball system and a large number of other pieces for their recreation committee.
“Physical activity gives a lot more to kids than just rosy cheeks and a healthy weight. It helps build self esteem, social skills, confidence, concentration and character,” Ms. Woodman said.
“It helps them learn how to work together, how to share and how to become leaders. It was an amazing weekend with informative sessions, interesting people and networking.”
Canadian Tire Companies believe that if you are asked “Can I play”, then “Yes” should always be the answer.
“When you purchase an item from the Jumpstart Program at your local Canadian Tire Store you are helping to support a fabulous program, numerous children and many deserving communities,” said Ms. Woodman. “Please support our Canadian Tire Companies and their charity program, Jumpstart.”
Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a National Charitable Program that was launched with the family of Canadian Tire Companies in 2005.
