Averee’s Pupose had a very successful year according to Chairperson, Paul Stewart. This year all monies will be used for Batten research. First of all we would like to thank everyone who made all this possible, the time and effort given by family and friends, and especially the Averee’s Purpose Committee for all their dedication. Our list of events for 2011 were as follows:
Feb 28th-Rare Disease Day during which sticks and bookmarks were given out to the public.
June 4th-Batten Awareness Weekend. The committee hosted a Children’s Merchandise Bingo and the children from Averee’s class presented a donation to Averee’s purpose from proceeds of a bake sale.
September 17th-Hosted a Ladies Dart Tournament
September 27th-Walk of Light took place from King Academy School to the old Town Garage for a fireworks show.
October 22nd- Hosted a Mixed Dart Tournament and a beer bottle drive.
October 29th- Halloween Brunch with Averee where pancakes were served.
November 5th- Sweepstakes Dance at the Lions Club with music provided by Southern Connections.
The support for each of these events in the form of prizes, monetary donation and public involvement was tremendous. This year we donated a total of $10,000.00 to BDSRA(Batten Disease Support and Research Association), also donated a Trans Illuminator to the Laboratory Department valued at $600.00 to the Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre and a donation of $500.00 to the Harbour Breton Lions Club for all their support. This is our way of thanking the people of Harbour Breton and surrounding communities for their continued involvement and awareness. I would also like to thank anyone who showed their support to Noah on Facebook during his run across America for Batten Research. As you know on the day of Averee’s Birthday on March 9th, 2011 Noah wished her a Happy Birthday and wore her T-shirt bearing the logo Averee’s Purpose for a portion of day. We look forward to another great year in 2012, and for your continued support and dedication. We will be hosting our Annual Children’s Merchandise Bingo on June 2nd, 2012 (which is also Batten Awareness Weekend) at the Harbour Breton Lions Club at 1:30pm in the afternoon and look forward to seeing your there.
