Mother’s Day is still one of the most important days for celebration.
In the homes across North America mothers, rightfully so, are the recipients of attention, love, gifts, cards, and flowers. In some churches across Canada the day is still recognized, and Sunday School children present tributes to their mothers, presenting them with flowers, homemade cards, and words of praise.
At St. Saviour’s Church in Hermitage-Sandyville, the number of children has declined, but the 11 who were there on May 13 sang songs and read poems with pride. Chloe Piercey read “To My Mother”, a short poem which expresses the feelings everyone has for the number one parent in their lives.
“To My Mother”
Today’s your natal day
Sweet flowers I bring
Mother, accept, I pray
My offering
And may you happy live
And long us bless
Receiving as you give
Great happiness
What can I give you?
Still small and quite young.
A picture I’ve colored
A song I have sung
Some help with the chores
That might be a good start
But whatever I give
It’s with love in my heart
