Mad scientists at Victoria Academy

Some students participated in “Raft Rally” where they could challenge each other to design a vessel out of tin foil that would hold the most counters without sinking.

Students enjoy a funtastic science day

Topics :
Victoria Academy , Gaultois

Ashley Harris, the science teacher at Victoria Academy in Gaultois, recently had her students engage in a very interesting and educational science fair.

Ms. Harris said, “ I made the decision to have a science fair themed activity day because I felt the best way to get students involved in Science is to let them choose topics they are interested in. This grants them the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat in their own learning process and have a break from the predetermined coursework.

“These types of activities allow the students to use their imaginations as well as their own two hands to create an experiment and show the rest of the school and community what they were able to accomplish.”

The students displayed a number of very imaginative projects that clearly illustrated some of the objectives in the science curriculum.

Ms. Harris said, “ These types of projects give students an opportunity to showcase talents that they may not even know they have.  Any time that you can incorporate fun and Science it benefits not just the students but the teachers as well. At the end of the day the students will take pride in the hard work they put into projects and it may even encourage them to pursue more scientific courses as they continue their studies.”
