In the past three years a little girl from Hermitage-Sandyville has raised – with a lot of help from her mom - $4443.00 for the children at the Janeway Hospital.
Chloe Piercey, now 7, and her mom Andrea began their annual collection of pennies after Chloe’s presentation of a cheque for $2452.00 in last year’s telethon, and now they are ready with help from family and friends to sell tickets on a quilt (with matching pillow shams and curtain topper). Chloe loves the quilt and wants to thank her Aunt Joan and her friend Margaret Douglas for their hours of work in doing the quilt and accessories.
It also takes a lot of work to collect and roll all the pennies and other coins which are collected in stores in the town; other bundles of pennies are dropped off by Chloe’s supporters in the area. The tickets, 1600 of which have been printed, are sent to family and supporters in the Coast of Bays and in places as far away as Port Union, NL and Alberta.
As they did last year, Chloe and her mom are taking orders for Janeway t-shirts which sell for !$10.00 (youth) and $15.00 (adult). And by the time they travel to Grand Falls – Windsor on June 2 and 3, they will have collected many dollars to donate to the annual Janeway fundraiser. Andrea emphasizes that they are not aiming to beat last year’s collection: “There is a lot of fundraising on the go in town, so we will be happy with what we can collect,” she adds.
Chloe, never one to be talkative, said, “This year we want to thank all the people who help us in our collection for the sick children.”
