On February 14th Fitzgerald Academy was jumping for a great cause as they raised funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
All grades from K to Level III participated in an hour of events planned in the gym by the coordinators for the event. Before the actual day of the event the students were asked to participate in a simple challenge each day leading up to the Big Day on February 14th. Some of the challenges were climbing 30 stairs throughout the day, jumping on one foot 30 times or doing 30 Jumping Jacks.
The students did the challenges and looked forward to the Big Event. On the day of the Big Event Mrs. Sheila Keeping ran the activities for the K-6 students. The students went to the gym for an hour in the morning and were put on teams that rotated through 6 stations that had them skipping, saying skipping rhymes and playing skipping games that incorporated Math and Language. It was a fun filled hour and enjoyed by all.
Ms. Adonna Hickey ran skill building and educational activities for the Grade 7-12 students. The students also had a fun hour of activities in the gym in the afternoon. The students were asked to go out and ask for sponsors for the Big Event. A total of $1457.90 was raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation on that day. The students and the coordinators would like to thank the general public for supporting such a worthwhile cause.
